Phase 4 Hearings examining Action against Sub-Postmasters to begin in early June
The Inquiry has today updated its indicative timeline for future public hearings.
So as to allow further evidence to be examined in Phase 3 of the Inquiry and to allow legal representatives of Core Participants to make closing statements on this Phase, there will be a further week of Phase 3 Hearings in the week commencing 15 May 2023.
Phase 4 Hearings, which will look at ‘Action against Sub-postmasters and others: policy making, audits and investigations, civil and criminal proceedings, knowledge of and responsibility for failures in investigation and disclosure’ will start soon after the end of Phase 3, in the week commencing 5 June 2023.
Phases 5 – 7 of the Inquiry, which will look at Redress, Governance and Current practice at the Post Office, will run from Autumn 2023. Dates for these hearings will be published as soon as is practicable.
Sir Wyn Williams remains committed to progressing matters as swiftly as he can. In a video message last year, he said: “I am examining events and decisions spanning 20 years and so my desire to provide answers to those adversely affected as swiftly as possible has to be tempered by my overriding duty to lay bare who knew what, when did they know it, and what did they do with the knowledge they had acquired.”
