Inquiry to hear from prosecutions expert witness

The witness timetable for the first two weeks of Phase 4 Hearings has been made available on the Inquiry’s website today. The Hearings will begin with oral evidence from prosecutions expert witness, Duncan Atkinson KC.

Phase 4 of the Inquiry is examining ‘Action against Sub-postmasters and others: policy making, audits and investigations, civil and criminal proceedings, knowledge of and responsibility for failures in investigation and disclosure’.

Mr Atkinson was asked by Sir Wyn Williams to independently review and analyse evidence the Inquiry has received in relation to matters concerning the conduct of criminal prosecutions brought by Post Office Limited.

Over two days in June he will address Volume 1 of his Expert Report, relating to the law and practice of the conduct of investigations and prosecutions between 2000 and 2013.

The Inquiry will then hear from Post Office witnesses about policy and practice in relation to action against Sub-postmasters and others before hearing from witnesses involved in proceedings relating to specific branches and specific criminal prosecution case studies.
